Valentine's Candy

The girls and I made Valentines suckers and candy on Wednesday am. It was suprisingly easy (I bought a kit) and a lot of fun. The girls pretty much did it all on their own and it turned out great!

Dr.'s Appointments

If I could build a house anywhere I wouldnt choose the beach or the mountains. I would choose a spot smack between our pediatrician's office and Walmart. Those two places are like second homes to me.

Anyway, I had Sully's one year well child appt. today. I cant seem to locate the little card with all his stats but he weighs between 21 and 22 pounds - 50th% (seems like way more to me...he is heavy!)
And he is just over 31 inches tall - over 75th%
Whatever his head measured at is completely off the charts - my kids have mongo heads.
We found out that he has a nasty ear infection. Both ears actually. Im so frustrated with this. Sully had RSV when he was 2 weeks old but really has not been sick since. He has never been on an antibiotic except for the ear infection he had along with RSV at that time. Now I find out that he has this terrible ear infection. He showed no signs of being sick or hurting.
How am I supposed to know he is sick then?!?!?!
The dr. said that was his concern too. That he may have ear infections like Lauren and we'll never know and they could cause loss of hearing like Lauren. ugh. So, I guess we have to keep an eye on that. Because of the infection we will go back next week for Sully's immunizations. (another trip!)
I told the Dr. that Sully just started to pull himself to a standing position in the last month. And he isnt very good at it. Sometimes it really seems to hurt him...he cries while doing it. Dr. said that his hips and legs look completely normal, he is just doing the standing bit somewhat late. But we are going to go back in one month and if he isnt improving there we might look into some physical therapy for stregthening purposes.
Ugh again.

But over all Sully looks great and he is so stinking happy all the time, I have no complaints.

I love to compare how they grow...at one:
Lauren weighed just over 24 pounds and was 31 inches long - I am so shocked that she was bigger than he is. He seems so big to me.
(I cant find Avery's book right now either. ugh again!) :)

Valentine's Eve

The most recent reasons that I love my husband –

1. How he can dance for what seems like an eternity on his knees with his baby girls. They make him spin, bow, ask for the dance, kiss their hands, and then do it all over again. And he never complains.
2. That he knows all the names to the 7 dwarves and most all the princesses, and their coordinating princes and doesn’t understand how a father of daughters couldn’t know that.
3. When he gets up at 4 am to go to work instead of going in late the night before – ‘because he wants to spend time with me instead’
4. The way he looked when he got dressed up in ‘bat gear’ to go catch a bat in my mom’s kitchen last week. Every inch of him was completely covered – he even had on ski goggles so his eyes were protected.
But, he wasnt afraid of the bat. Hmmm?
5. How he misses my dad almost as much as I do and thinks about him and talks about him all the time.
6. The love, support patience, understanding, affection and strength that he has shown to over the past 8 months since my dad died. I have never felt his love more and I will never be able to repay him.

Happy Valentines Day Jordan.

Happy Birthday, Sullivan Joseph

How can a year pass so quickly? This year has been filled with so many life altering changes and im sure that was why it passed so fast.
Back in October 2005 I was headed to my ultrasound appointment and Jordan was unexpectedly not able to attend. I was bummed but excited. I knew this meant that I was going to find out the sex of the baby and Jordan wouldnt want to know.
I didnt really care what the doctor had to say, I just hoped up and said, tell me! The dr. said, "well you see this here? That is a penis!"
I about flew off the table. I was shocked. Really???? He said, yeah, 100%.
I started crying. The nurse had to hand me kleenxes. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE having girls - love every second - but I knew that we needed a boy!!
So for about 4 months I held that secret in. honestly I never even had the desire to tell my secret. Then Friday the 10th of February came and about 8:30 pm I finally gave in and said, ok, this is really it, lets go. Off we went to the hospital.
Things went pretty quickly. By midnight I had my epidural and Jordan and I were sleeping.

At 1 am the room was suddenly full of very nervous looking nurses. Something wasnt right. I said, 'did the machine run out paper?' (talking about the machine monitouring my contractions and the baby's heart rate) The nurse firmly said, "No, lay down."
That scared me. Jordan was at my head and we started praying. Then the nurse pulled back my sheets and I'm sure she about fainted. Get the doctor she yelled! By this point I was getting pretty ticked off that no one was talking to me! (turns out Sully's head was already out!)
As the Lord had it planned, at that moment our Dr. happened to be walking by my room. in he came and went work. Doing what, I have no idea!

All I know is a few minutes later I heard a baby crying on the other side of the room and I said, 'HE WAS BORN!?!?!?!?!'
The room erupted in laughter. They could not believe that I hadnt even known I had given birth. They were telling me good job, way to go!
I said, for what? I didn't do anything! (every delivery should be like that!)
So then I look at Jordan and say, 'so do you know what it is?' Through his tears he wispehered, 'my boy.'
I'll never forget that.
I'll never forget when they laid Sully in my arms and I looked into those blue blue eyes and wisphered I love you.
I will also never forget the looks on Lauren and Avery's faces when they saw and held their brother for the first time. Instant love.

I am very greatful for this little boy. Grateful that I got to see my dad hold him and say, "what a boy!" I'm not really sure what he meant by that, but I think it was his way of saying, "I'm so happy to have a grandson from you."
I'm grateful for the daddy that this little boy has and the values that he will instil in him. I am so happy that Sully is mine to hold, if only for awhile. I love you Sullivan Joseph. I always will.

Welcome Skittles and Sebastian Dirks

Sully got his birthday present this weekend...two hermit crabs. Its really not a very nice present to give a one year old considering he cant touch them. But the girls are sure having fun with them!
Skittles and Sebastian are VERY active when we put them in their 'bathtub'. They might be fighting, but we prefer to say they are playing!

Encouragement...

I took all three kids to Waterloo today. We had 4 stores we needed to go in...which of course involved in and out of the van that many times...which to me is the absolute most exhausting part because Avery is not able to buckle herself in yet and all that.
By the time we got to Walmart I was beat. We did our shopping and the girls were pretty good. But half way through we still had to race to the bathroom for Avery. I lost Avery for a panicked 27 seconds and she ALMOST knocked over a display of DVD's.
Lauren and Avery danced around and counted lots of things on the shelves and by the time we were in the check out line I was telling them that they had done a wonderful job and I would take them to McDonalds.
But I was still exhausted.
As I was stuffing the receipt in my purse and heading out this older woman whom I had seen repeatedly thoughout Walmart came over and gave me a hug. She said, "I just wanted to let you know that it isnt often I see kids who are so well behaved in this store. They are usually crying and throwing fits and asking for toys and the parents are screaming at them."
At that moment Avery had a CAUTION - WET FLOOR sign on her head and was dancing around running into people and things. I said, "well, you might change your mind now!"
She said, "No, that is what I mean. You kids are happy. They are acting like kids and their mother isnt scolding them for that."
She hugged me again told me I was doing a great job and to enjoy every minute.

I walked out of Walmart feeling very very happy. Not that my kids were so well behaved, because honeslty they werent as wonderful as she thought! But more because I was reminded yet again to cherish EVERYTHING they do. Maybe I should even cherish Avery's dancing with the CAUTION crown more than the time she spent sitting quietly in the cart.

Thanking God for the 'angels' he sends into our lives to give us encouragement when we really need it. I dont know who that lady was but I know I wont forget her.

Aednoids and tubes

Jordan and I took Lauren over to the ENT specialist today. She had failed 2 hearing tests at preschool this year.
So, she had another test and failed in her right ear again. So then we saw the dr. and he asked if Lauren's nose was always full of snot like it is today. We said YES! We are constantly telling her to clean it - it has always been a problem.
She also has an ear infection in her right ear.
He is blaming both of these things and her temporary hearing loss on her aednoids (sp?).
So...On the 23rd she is having a tube put in her right ear AND having her aednoids removed. He thought about tonsils too but is NOT doing that. Thank goodness. He said she would be down for about 3-5 days - not feeling real good after the surgery - but then hopefully will be as good as new.
Pray for Lauren, she is very nervous and she doesn't understand what is going on - just knows something is up. We aren't really sure how much of this to share with her.

I feel really good knowing why her hearing hasn't been the best and that we can do something about it. I am so thankful that God gives Dr.'s the knowledge to heal us!

Happy 30th...(to me)

Yesterday I turned 30. It wasnt as bad as I thought...people were pretty kind.
Actually my birthday was great. I had a date with Jordan the night before, breakfast in bed from Jordan and the kids, a lazy afternoon, lots of phone calls from lots of different people and then supper and games with my whole family at my moms, some fun presents and my moms chocolate cake. Couldnt ask for much more.
I really have had more trouble dealing with Lauren turning 5 than with my turning 30. 40 might be another story - check with me in 10 years.

Jordan actually spoiled my birthday suprise back in December. He woke me up at like 12:30 one night and said, I need to know if you want help planning your 30th birthday present or if you want to be suprised. I am not good at suprises - so of course I said I wanted to help.
In March we are going to Europe for 10 days. If that is what I get for turning 30, I'll do it every year!
And the best part is that Melanie and Jason have decided to go with us!!!!

Anyway, Happy Birthday to me.

Puzzles

The girls and I decided to play with puzzles. When Avery got tired of it I told Lauren that we should dump all our puzzles on the floor in a big pile and then put them all back together again. It took some convincing. She said we shouldnt because it would make a mess and they would be all mixed up. Finally I got her there.

So we dumped them out and instead of starting to put them together Lauren started making piles out of all the puzzles pieces. She said it would be easier if they were organized...what? Sometimes she is so much like me it is scary.
