I've been reading the account of Jesus' birth in Luke over and over this week.
Today the portion sometimes known as 'Mary's song' stuck out to me.
I think about Mary a lot this time of year. Can you imagine being her?
A young girl in a time when women were not held to much esteem. Pregnant. Unmarried.
Can you imagine how the town was buzzing about her????
Dont you just love to see God use ordinary people?!
She had to have been scared and even though she was called, 'highly favored' she must have had moments of 'why me?!'
That is why I love to hear her praise Him in this section. Her faith was so strong even in the middle of something so scary and miraculous and beyond comprehension! She praised Him and gave Him glory even though I'm sure her head was filled with questions and worry.
Oh, to have that kind of faith.
Mary's Song
Luke 1:46-55
And Mary said: 'My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed fore the Mighty One has done great things for me- Holy is His name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deed with His arm;
He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as He promised our ancestors.
