Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

My kids seem to like making a liar out of me. Whenever I say something that they are doing...it changes.

The past 2 days Tess has napped wonderfully. She doesnt like to nap in the morning and I have accepted that. But in the afternoon she has done great. I switched her to a different formula and I think that might be helping as well.

Anyway, Im praying this keeps up. Napping combined with sleeping at night...makes a very happy mommy...liar or not!

Pockets

I don't ever want to forget how proud Sullivan is that he has pockets in his shorts.

Especially that he has two pockets.

I bet he has told me about them 9 times this morning.

"Mommy, I have pockets, I have two pockets. Two pockets Mommy. Mommy look, I have two pockets. I have pockets. I a big boy. I have two pockets. My pockets."

Who knew pockets were so cool?

sore

We had the kids' pictures tonight. We had a local photographer take them in a friend's beautiful backyard. All the kids individually did PERFECT. But when we got them all together it didnt go quite as smoothly. I dont know if there will be one decent one. But all the individual pictures should be great. Im so excited to see them.

Anyway, Im tired and sore from that! Quite the workout.

Good night!

The Best

Tess, Sully and I were just playing with her baby toys on the floor. She loves loves loves to stare at these toys.
And she just squealed in delight when I did peek-a-boo.

She is such a joy of a baby.

Even with the short naps...still a joy. So alert and happy and intrigued by what's going on around her. And in our house that's a good thing cause there's normally a lot going on around her!

2 cute lines

1. Last night we went on a walk and took in the farmer's market, bandstand entertainment and the library. While at the library Sullivan wanted to do a puzzle with Jordan. They sat down at the table together and Sully said, "You're on my team daddy."

Im not sure why but it was soooo precious.

2. This morning Avery heard someone say, "Chicago" on tv. She said "Chicago? Is that a bad place?" I said "No, its a great city. Why do you think its bad?" she said, "well is it still burning?"

I guess her and Jordan had recently looked a some pictures of the Chicago fire. But seriously, how cute!

Naps

I need help. Tess does not nap well. At all. She did until probably 1.5 weeks ago. Now she takes 30-40 min naps and it is killing me. She doesnt wake up happy so I know this is not what she wants to be doing. I dont know what I am doing wrong.

Im not getting anything done and not getting much time with the older kids.

She sleeps great at night. At least 5 hours at a time. And the past 3 nights its been 7 hours.

Ive tried putting her to bed awake. Tried putting her to bed asleep. It doesn't matter.

Avery did this too and we never had a solution. She'd sleep for 9-10 hours at night and rarely nap. That is impossible to deal with for an infant. It was very hard and we ended up switching daycare providers over it at 9 months.

Any tips? I dont swaddle her at night so it doesnt really make sense to try that during the day?? thoughts on that?

For real

I'm not making this up.
I posted my last post and then walked into the living room to find this.

Izzy's eyes seem to be saying, "Come on! You cant really do this can you?"

Yeah, this is going to go over like liver for supper. And have I mentioned my dad gave me this cat?

Not quite what I was expecting...

I took Sullivan to the Allergist this morning. His excema has really flared up and for the first time he is complaining about it. He is always itching his hand and neck and calls some of the spots on his legs 'owies'. So the dermatologist recommended we move onto the Allergist.
They tested him for like 15 different possible allergies. The good news...he's only allergic to one thing.

The bad news...its CATS. YES CATS!!!

We just went through the trauma of losing our cat, then finding her. Now we have to get rid of her?

I said to the dr., "Are you really telling me to get rid of my cat?"

He said that Sullivan is about as allergic to cats as a person can get. He said that it might not help his excema or it might totally clear it up, or anywhere in between. He said if Sully were his son, he'd get rid of the cat.

Uh yeah, bawling in the parking lot.

Not what I was expecting.

I keep telling myself that it could have been a wheat or milk allergy that would have really been a lot of work to deal with and would have been hard on Sully. I keep saying that this is actually good and we might be able to get the kid some relief.

But seriously. Seriously! WE JUST GOT HER BACK!

Anyone want a REALLY REALLY great cat? She's wonderful with children, loves to cuddle and also loves her litter box.

Sisters

I love these two girls. I love how their differences are somehow working to make them a very strong little team.

This morning before Lauren left for school she went up to Avery, totally unprompted and said, "Avery, have fun at school! I'll be thinking about you!"
Then the first thing Avery said when we got home today was, "I cant wait to tell Lauren about my school!"

I didn't get any sisters. God gave me these girls to watch be sisters instead. I wouldn't change it for one single second.

(From our walk around Pine Lake last night...they were so cute and sweet.)

So excited we cant stand still!

Preschool

Today was the day. Avery's first day of preschool. She was so excited she couldnt stand it. She's been asking me since the moment her eyes opened if it was time to go.
Then when the time got close she got pretty quiet. Finally she spilled her guts as to why..."Mommy, I think I'm scared." My heart about broke. I knelt down beside her and said 'Baby there is nothing to be afraid of, tell me about.'
With tears in her eyes and in true Avery fashion she said, 'Well I just dont want to have any homework!'

After I assured her that there would be no homework she was ready to go again. This kid cracks me up like none other.

I had a harder time letting her go than that. I had to hold back the wall of tears as I took her picture and helped her put her backpack on. I had to smile through the tears as I kissed her good bye and told her to have fun. That was a tough one. This isnt getting any easier the more times I do it.

Oh My Heart.

Daddy showed up just in time for a good bye kiss from his girl.

You're Gonna Miss This

I know, everyone's heard this song. I'm not even a country song. But I need to listen to this song, DAILY. Sometimes, HOURLY.

I know it is so very very true. I already miss them being 'little'.

She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaning, saying "I can't wait to turn 18"
She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her "It's a nice place"
She says "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says "Baby, just slow down"

Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
She keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but ...

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"

And now...

The new.
One of the biggest challenges with this room is that it is also a hallway leading into Contessa's bedroom. It used to be a crawl space that connected the servant's quaters - yes that's right - to the rest of the upstairs. It has lots of slanted ceilings and small unique windows. These pictures dont do the colors of the walls justice - I love this color. The bathroom part of the room now has new vinyl and the hallway part of the room has new carpet and so does Contessa's bedroom.

I'll try and get some photos of the kitchen this week...after I give it a good cleaning! You'll have to wait on the converted toyroom/den because I have not done anything for decor in that room...sorry! ha.

The bathroom

I've received some rather scathing emails about my lack of before and after posting since our remodel.

We got just a tad busy after that!!!

But here you go..before pics of the bathroom. They arent real great. honestly, I have hated this room since the moment I stepped foot in it and would never purposefully take a photo of it! I like it that I am forgetting what it looked like before....It was all carpet- gross carpet, and the walls were a dingy white, the trim even dingier. Except for the doors and windows which were teal. The only pic I could find of this room has a baby's cute little rear in it so at least that makes the picture worthwhile!

Just cute

She is so alert and aware of what is going on...what did we do without her?

Good job Becky.

I accomplished something today that I've been trying to do for 6 months.

I scheduled Sullivan's 2 year pictures. Better late than never. While we are at we're going to do Avery's 4 year pics and get some snaps of all 4 together. I hope anyway!

Closing Ceremony

Good-bye unti 2012!

The medal ceremony

The kids were REALLY proud of their medals. It was so cute.

Javelin throw

(This totally dangerous game was Jordan's idea!)

Long Jump

The beanbag race

Sully figured out that carrying two beanbags made the race much faster.

The littlest Olympians

Tess and Pete...couldn't be cuter!

First Annual Kid Olympics

We have loved watching the Olympics this year. I don't want to wait another 4 years for another Summer Olympics.

We decided to send them out in style by holding our own Kid Olympics at our house tonight. We invited Lebos, with Ella, Lucy and Pete & Kirkpatricks witht Jalen, over for some FIERCE competition.

The night started off with Jason in the gymnastics competition...

His cartwheel.

And he STUCK the landing! The judges were very impressed.

Kick 'em

I was having a pre-preschool talk with Avery this afternoon. We were talking about rules and listening to the teacher and all that good stuff.
I asked her, "So what should you do if someone mean to you?"
Avery's response, "Kick 'Em!"

I couldn't help it, I burst out laughing. In her sweet little soft voice - it sounded hysterical.

Later we talked about that one a little more...

Lead

It is amazing to me how my Savior leads and directs me. For the past few days I've had a verse on my heart...but I couldnt place it. It was coming out of a song I've been hearing over and over every time I am in the car it seems.
But then I'd get in the house and I'd get 'too busy' or distracted and wouldn't think to look it up again till the next time I was in the car.

Here it is:
Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him, says my soul. Lam 3:22-24

I 'found' it today while reading the blog of another mom who was needing some encouragement...and it encouraged me too.

That is why I love blogging. And more than that, that is why I love my Savior. He knows. He leads and He is always there waiting for me. Unfortunetly lately, He's been doing way too much waiting on me to look to Him for what I am missing. Its always there. Always. The encouragement is always there. He is always there.

How I spent my rainy day...

Some people have asked me how Tess's schedule is going. I'm pretty sure they are mocking me.

She cat naps in the morning...1/2 naps. Then takes one LONG nap in the afternoon. However, today she has not done that...only 1/2 hour naps. So now you know how I spent my day!

But in her defense...when she's up - she's extremely happy.

How Contessa spent her rainy day...

Being cute...

(Im not choking her...she burps best that way...she doesnt seem to mind.)

And DANCING!!!!!

How Lauren spent her rainy day...

We discovered that we can see her at recess time from our picture window. Good and Bad - Good because its nice to see her having so much fun. Bad because we miss her and Avery & Sully dont understand why they cant go see her!

See that cute girl in the pink shirt and jean skirt? That's her!

How Avery and Sully spent their rainy day..

Avery played some computer games.

They played with the dollhouses together.

They both held Tess.

And they played cars.

Sixty-two

Today would have been another birthday for my dad.

He loved celebrating birthdays. Loved it.

transition

This transition to the school schedule is going to be hard on me.

I've been trying to keep Tess up for the last 45 minutes because I dont want her to have to get woken up right when its time to go get Lauren. I laid Sully down way early for his nap and he feel asleep about 10 minutes ago and we have to leave in 10 minutes to go get Lauren...he normally naps for 2 hours or more!

The school transition isn't going so easy for Avery either. She lost her playmate...she's very bored. I guess I just don't cut it.

Pursuing Picaso

Lauren had a blast yesterday. She is very precise...just like her dad. We'll go back in one week to pick up her masterpiece.
